Wild Roots is a licensed early learning program for children ages 3 to 5, rooted in nature-based play and a Reggio-inspired approach to learning. Located within the Hand-in-Hand Childcare Centre, Wild Roots offers a supportive and intentional transition for children as they move into kinder-age programming.
 

This program is designed for children who are developing greater independence, curiosity, and social awareness. Through meaningful play experiences, outdoor exploration, and responsive relationships, children are supported to explore their interests, build confidence, and develop a strong sense of belonging.
 

The Wild Roots environment is Reggio-inspired, viewing children as capable, curious, and active participants in their own learning. Educators thoughtfully design spaces that invite exploration, collaboration, and creativity, using natural materials and open-ended resources that evolve alongside children’s interests.

Nature plays a central role in the program. Children spend regular time outdoors engaging with their environment, observing seasonal changes, and developing respect for the natural world. Indoor and outdoor spaces are intentionally connected, allowing learning to flow naturally between environments.
 

Wild Roots is committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment where every child is listened to, respected, and valued. Educators use positive, relationship-based child guidance practices that support emotional development, self-regulation, and problem-solving. Children are supported to:

• Learn empathy, cooperation, and respect for others

• Develop critical thinking and conflict-resolution skills

Guidance focuses on teaching and supporting skills rather than punishment. Educators model calm communication, actively listen to children, and work collaboratively with families to support each child’s success within the program.
